Kevin Hart, a prominent figure and cherished member of the community, passed away on August 16, 2025, in Bryan, North Carolina, following a brief illness. His life journey, which spanned 66 years, was marked by his passion for astronomy, dedication to his family, and a love for adventure.
Born in Syracuse, New York, Kevin was raised in a loving household by his parents, Donald and Marjorie. His family’s move to Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, when he was nine years old set the stage for his later academic and career achievements. Graduating from Villanova University in 1981 with a degree in Astronomy and a minor in Mathematics, Kevin began his professional career at GE Aerospace. His experiences during the Cold War era were notable, as he worked long hours alongside many young professionals, forging lifelong friendships through work and shared interests.
While at GE, Kevin met Kathy, the love of his life, under serendipitous circumstances when he sought information from her office mate. Their relationship blossomed both professionally and personally, as they bonded over shared social activities like volleyball and skiing. This connection ultimately led to a beautiful marriage that lasted nearly 36 years.
After spending 15 years in the aerospace industry, Kevin made a significant career shift to pursue his passion for brewing beer. This transition reflected his adventurous spirit and desire to embrace his hobbies fully. The couple relocated to North Carolina in 1997, where Kevin’s career progressed back into the tech industry, culminating in his retirement from Garmin in 2018.
Kevin was known for his lifelong dedication to learning and problem-solving. Friends and family admired his resourcefulness and handyman skills; he could repair anything from bicycles to vintage Victrolas. His home in North Carolina, built with Kathy, became a sanctuary surrounded by nature, where they shared countless joyful moments.
Astronomy remained a key passion throughout Kevin’s life. He first discovered his love for the stars in junior high and saved diligently for his first telescope at the age of 16. Whether hosting neighborhood star-gazing events or setting up telescopes for personal viewing, his enthusiasm for the cosmos was infectious. Kevin’s highlight moments included witnessing and photographing the Total Solar Eclipses of 2017 and 2024, experiences he cherished deeply.
A devout Philadelphia Eagles fan, Kevin’s love for the team was evident in his weekend plans and family conversations, especially with his father and brother. Unfortunately, he was unable to witness the Eagles’ first Super Bowl victory in 2018 due to a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Antarctica celebrating Kathy’s birthday.
Travel was a cornerstone of Kevin and Kathy’s life together. Following the philosophy of sharing beloved places with loved ones, they voyaged extensively, exploring Hawaii, Alaska, Peru, and Iceland with family. In the latter part of his life, Kevin pursued adventures in an RV with Kathy and their beloved dog, Maddie. His travels culminated in visiting all 50 states and hiking in 46 national parks, an admirable feat that showcased his love for the great outdoors.
Survived by his wife Kathy, brother Steven (and his family), and his in-laws, Kevin Hart leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and exploration. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved cocker spaniels, Molly and Maddie. His passing is a significant loss, felt by family, friends, and anyone who crossed paths with him.
A Celebration of Life Service in Kevin’s honor will take place at Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs, North Carolina, on September 12, 2025. Friends and family are invited to gather to share fond memories. The family expresses gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion provided by the staff at North Carolina Heart & Vascular Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, the Hart family encourages donations to the National Park Foundation in memory of Kevin Hart. This request reflects his love for nature and adventure, inspiring others to embark on their journeys with friends and family, remembering Kevin’s delightful spirit along the way.
As we reflect on Kevin Hart’s life, we honor not just his achievements but also the deep connections and memories forged with his loved ones—reminding us all to cherish the time we have together, explore the world around us, and embrace life’s adventures with open hearts.
